Second Rap [Video/Action in Ecruteak]

[When Dirk turns on his Pokegear, he’s leaning against a wall somewhere, bundled up in his ridiculous Christmas sweater. Maybe it’s hard to tell thanks to his habit of wearing sunglasses all the time, but to those who know him, he might seem kind of tired.]

A word of advice for future Christmases. If you’re planning on getting your friend an egg, first figure out how many of their other friends are giving them eggs too. Otherwise, they might have five eggs hatch on the same day.

[At this point, Dirk turns the SFC around to show a collection of baby pokemon at his feet, including a Ralts, Charmander, Houndour, Feebas, and Ponyta. As soon as Dirk’s attention is directed to them, they all start clamoring for attention.]

Anyone else have the same problem?

[ Is the sight of a former troll with some pokemon food a welcome one? Because Aradia went to go mix some up, apparently, and she's coming over in time to catch that question. ]

Jake did, actually. He got a lot of eggs for his birthday, and add to those what he bought...Well, you can view the hatching on the video archives, actually.

Jake gave me two of these. I have no sympathy for him. And if he bought half of them, it's his own damn fault.

[She's a very welcome sight! To Dirk and to the pokemon, apparently, because they start watching her, instead of Dirk.]

I think it's nice to have baby pokemon around, but I might be a bit biased. [ She likes to study them. Which sounds creepier than it is in actuality; Aradia's at least more than willing to lend a hand with little pokemon, and she's had nothing but practice since coming to Johto.

She's setting down several food dishes now, having balanced them with waitress-learned skills. ]

And at least you're not travelling alone? Jane's got at least as many as you.

Yes. [Going to turn her feed, there's a gaggle of Pokemon all vying for both her attention and the attention of Luxio, Bayleaf and -- is that a Bulbasaur? Yeah. Vines are somewhat everywhere trying to keep the energetic little ones in line; the "little ones" being a Ralts, Gastly, Cleffa, Cherubi.. and a blue-green Trapinch.]

I hoped I would at least reach the town on the other side of this forest before they would hatch, and I'm grateful I caught a few extra who aren't so .. young, but oh my goodness.

Jesus, Jane. Next time, don't split when you have a ton of eggs. We'll make a nursery.

[As he talks, Dirk's Ralts squirms up onto his shoulder- it was climbing his leg, it got there pretty quickly all things considered- and leans in to stare at the other Ralts on the screen.]

I wasn't expecting them all to hatch on the same day! [Her Ralts is getting lifted up by one of the Bulbasaurs vines, so Jane scoops it up to give the other Pokemon a hand in "babysitting". This Ralts? Chirps gently and peers right back through the screen.]

[There's just laughter on this end. Then it switches to video. At Dave's feet is a Cranidos and draped over his shoulders is an Eevee. Nakadile naks in the background arguing about something with Biggie Smalls and Dave pans the view to the table to his left. Sitting in the fragments of an egg is a black and blue Zorua.]

Not as big a problem but yeah, rethinking things a little. Think of it this way, once Ponyta evolves, you can train them to let you ride their back. Really fast way of travel.

In between training the rest of them. Least I have enough fire types to get me through the winter.

[For the moment, Dirk's pokemon are staying at his feet, though the sound of background pokemon chatter has caught their attention.]

[Dave is used to his climbing all over him or demanding his attention. He doesn't even react when Cranidos sits on his foot or the unnamed Zorua starts chewing on his sleeve.]

Forgot to say Ponyta came from Rose's crazy breeding schemes. So it has some egg moves but nothing as crazy as John's ghost lines.

[He's pretty pleased with them, really. He just got a flaming pony, which is awesome. And one that will evolve into a samurai. He just isn't happy with the explosion to his roster.]

[The feed clicks on and guess what? Dirk's getting a view of a small group of baby Pokemon, too. Amongst them include a Growlithe, Ralts, Houndour, Litwick and a Duskull that's still relatively small. He's keeping them occupied with a smuppet, which they're playing with for now.

After a moment, it cuts to Bro and he laughs. It's a bitter sort of laugh, because oh how he can sympathise.]

[Dirk's expression is blank when he answers this one. After the conversation with Bro at the party, he's not sure where this one will go, but considering how amicably it started off, he's not going to do something like ignore it.]

Yep. Turns out if you give 'em a smuppet, they're happy. At least for now. You might wanna consider it until you can figure out how you're gonna take care of a group of babies. At least you get to experience the joys of parenthood, though.

They're not the only thing I got, but there's nothing wrong with a practical gift.

As a breeder, I do know what that is like. Even if ninety percent of my clutches are my own fault. It gets easier with time. One thing that may help is allowing them to converse with your older, maturer Pokemon. Most of the time they'll be more than willing to help watch and entertain them. I've even had a few help teach and train my little ones. Though...I would be mindful of the more impressionable ones. I happen to have a Wartortle who is convinced he is a Ninetales. And his Ninetales mothers will do nothing to change his mind on this.

I have one older pokemon, and there are arguments to be made about how mature Kusanagi is. He's avoiding them, anyway. Doesn't want to shank them.

[Jake's got four new Pokemon following him around, now, as he walks into the room. A Shinx, a Houndour, a Snorunt, and a pink Minccino, the latter taking a ride on his shoulder.]

I've had about five or six hatch at once before. It was...an interesting time.
