Second Rap [Video/Action in Ecruteak]

[When Dirk turns on his Pokegear, he’s leaning against a wall somewhere, bundled up in his ridiculous Christmas sweater. Maybe it’s hard to tell thanks to his habit of wearing sunglasses all the time, but to those who know him, he might seem kind of tired.]

A word of advice for future Christmases. If you’re planning on getting your friend an egg, first figure out how many of their other friends are giving them eggs too. Otherwise, they might have five eggs hatch on the same day.

[At this point, Dirk turns the SFC around to show a collection of baby pokemon at his feet, including a Ralts, Charmander, Houndour, Feebas, and Ponyta. As soon as Dirk’s attention is directed to them, they all start clamoring for attention.]

Anyone else have the same problem?

Excuse you, at least half of those eggs had been gifts from friends.

[Jake grins and kneels down to pick up the Ralts, giving it as much attention as he can and still pay attention to Dirk. The Minccino leaps off of his shoulder and immediately starts cleaning the room of dust and dirt.]

All of these ones are gifts. It doesn't even begin to count.

[The Ralts is squirming. Clearly half of Jake's attention isn't enough for it.]

And you're responsible for two of them. Maybe I should honor you for it.

Oh, don't be so difficult, Dirk. It wasn't as if I had planned to have seven eggs all at once!

[He gives the Ralts a little more than half his attention in response.]

Might as well give you every advantage you can get, right? Dunno how you'll honor that.

Not like I did, either. [He's just giving Jake a look. Did you really just tell him not to be difficult. Jake, remember who you're talking to.]

No, I totally should. Maybe by naming one after you. How about...

[He glances around exaggeratedly, before finally picking up the Feebas?]

This guy. Perfect match.

[Jake is too busy with the Ralts to pay attention to the look. It is his hope that one day, Dirk will stop being difficult for at least one day, even if it's a futile hope.]

Wait, what?

[He glances up and...stares at the Feebas.]

...You know? I don't know how to feel about that. I mean, he's kind of cute?

[Kind...of????]

[If Jake ever gives him a real reason to stop being difficult, then he might. Or he might not.]

Jake, define for me what part of him is cute. You can get away with striking and unique, but I'm not seeing the cute.

I can say 'unlike his namesake,' if that will make you feel better about it.

[This may mean it'll never happen.]

I'm hardly cute material, Dirk. And, well...he...kind of looks like a brown and blue goldfish? Kind of? I think there's a hold item for Feebas at the department store that's important to its evolution?

[Staring a little more at it before giving the Ralts attention.]

Kind of reminds me of Magikarp, actually.

Whatever you say, Jake.

It basically is a Magikarp. Looking at it's moves, it can't do a damn thing at the moment.

[Dirk's going to turn away from the Feebas now, in favor of giving scratches to the Houndour.

By now, Kamina is practically climbing all over Jake.]

Oh, don't be like that to him, I'm sure he'll turn out to be a great Pokemon. And if you're so concerned with what he can or can't do, then get the thing that's needed to evolve him.

[Jake can deal with a climbing Ralts. He hopes.]

Turn out to be doesn't mean he's the best right now. I have no intention of letting him stay useless.

[Jake should probably feel sorry for this Feebas.]

[He is. He feels for it so much that he goes over to pick it up and comfort it. Don't listen to Dirk, you poor fellow.]

Ouch. You realize you're saying that to a Pokemon you named after me, right?
