Let me tell you about Homestuck

Canon Point:

Dirk: Unite

Preferred Team: Chaos.

Dirk is suitable for Chaos for two reasons- the first being that he is willing to do drastic things in order to achieve his goals. He’s hurt his friends, and hidden information for them- he considers himself a “puppeteer” who is good at pulling the strings to get what he wants.

The other is that he has a distain for organized government as seen on his world- that government is headed by a person who wants to manipulate him, and who caused the death of his brother-figure. That’s given him a strong anti-authoritarian bent.

It is worth noting that these traits are double-edged; the things he does as a “puppeteer” he does to make his friends stronger, and he’s just as willing to hurt or even kill himself for their sakes. Similarly, the government in place on his world is responsible for the extinction of the human race, so he has plenty of reasons to hate them. Still, he has an attitude and personality that, in the right situation, could be turned to work for Chaos.

Cycle Goal: Confide honestly in someone, about his emotions or misgivings.

Memories:

General 1: The impression that he should still find himself awake somewhere else, even when he goes to sleep.

General 2: A feeling of familiarity around robotics.

Specific: That he was “raised” by his puppet, Lil Cal.

Personality:

During a conversation with his friend Jane, Dirk told her; “If it puts your mind at ease, I'll be the one pulling the strings here.” It’s a perfect description of him. He prides himself on being a plotter and a schemer. He has plans upon plans for whatever challenges might face, and when things go wrong, he’s ready to take action. When he is comes face-to-face with the COndesce, who destroyed his world, his first instinct is to charge at her, sword drawn. He had the foresight to remain hidden in order to search out information on Derse, and he was prepared to take over as Jane’s server player at the drop of a hat when things started to go wrong in their session of the game SBURB. He’s not omniscient, so there are things he doesn’t plan for or expect, such as another friend, Jake, and Jane wandering into the middle of Derse’s destruction, but after he gets over his surprise, he manages to not only revive all of his friends from death, but gather them in one place with a very complicated plan that required very fast thinking, good timing, and a willingness to first kill himself, then to trust Jake to revive him.

Dirk is... well, the best way to say it is ‘pretty damn weird.’ He’s got an obsession with puppets and a habit of describing them in extreme detail that weirds out everyone he talks to. He likes horses and has pictures of “swole bunny men” on his computer. He likes hats even though he can’t wear them. He takes things too far, whether they’re jokes about teaching Jane irony, or making his part of a set of birthday gifts. He raps. He admires his brother/ancestor for being a “master of irony.” Of course, most of this only makes him fit in with his friends even more, since they're just as weird as he is, but they're still silly little quirks that make Dirk who he is.

Dirk’s friends are important to him. He went above and beyond in creating birthday presents for them, making complicated robots for both. Sometimes, though, the way he shows that he cares can be convoluted. The closer he is to a person, the more dedicated he is to making them stronger, and he will act in an infuriating manner while doing so. His interactions with Jake, for example: He gives Jake a robot that constantly beats him up in fights; he forces Jake to talk to an auto-responder, an AI version of himself, instead of talking to his friend. He's doing all of this to make Jake a better fighter, and less gullible, but he's still being rather infuriating through the process of it. He’s also willing to be blunt about telling them their flaws. Eventually, after a while of being ignored by Jake, he’s willing to call him out, even as he admits to his own flaws. He tells his friend Roxy that he’s disappointed in her when she starts drinking again, and he encourages Jane to be more assertive and trusting. The flip side of this is that Dirk can be clingy, when he’s afraid that someone he cares is losing interest in him, sometimes driving them away through his attempts to keep them close. This is most shown in his actions around Jake- when Jake starts pulling away from him, Dirk continues contacting him, and trying to draw him in again through offers of traveling through dungeons together.

It’s true that Dirk presents a rather inflated opinion of himself as being the bastion of cool, but at least some of that is earned, and there’s humility under it. He builds robots to fight against, for example, which is the same thing he did for Jake. As for his rapping, he made two rap-bots to fight against. Squarewave is a robot he can always beat, but he made another, Sawtooth, to be insanely better than him, and he’s never managed to beat him. His constant efforts to improve himself lead to him knowing a lot of different things in canon- how to rap, how to build robots, how to draw, how to swim- he even researched the history of the world extensively. There is no one who pushes Dirk harder than he pushes himself, and there is no one harder on him than he is on himself.

Dirk has a habit of layering his words with ironic meaning that doesn’t help prevent people from getting irritated with him- even when he’s saying something sincerely, everyone around him has to look for hidden meanings in what he says, because there's always something. Some of that is part of the way he grew up. Having no contact with people while growing up doesn’t do much for one’s social skills. The rest of it is just his personality. He feels the need to be on top of everything and show that he knows what he’s doing. Talking about his feelings doesn’t exactly help with that. The closest he comes to admitting to a problem is discussing uncertainty over affairs on Derse with the anonymous helper UranianUmbra- he does mention it to Roxy, but he doesn't go into detail, and says that he'll have it handled. The only time he goes in-depth in talking about his feelings is with the prodding of his auto-responder, who is literally a copy of himself. It is also only due to the AR’s needling that he admits that he dislikes a lot of the things the auto-responder does and admits also that he dislikes a lot of things about himself.

Samples: General Text post and a few other examples involving fighting.

Arena:

Arena Name: Land of Tombs and Krypton
Physical Description: Dirk’s Land, like those of all of his friends, is dead. It is full of tombs that reach up to the sky, that all appear to be a deep green in color. The only building that is different is what appears to be an apartment building, supported on metal girders. In the distance, up in the sky, huge eruptions of smoke and gas can be seen, and occasional branches of what looks like lightning.

The air is filled with gas, which gets thicker and thicker as one moves down toward ground level. If one isn’t careful, they could suffocate, and would likely die before they could reach the ground, unless they had some way to get breathable air with them.

Media:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven

Effects: The closer to the ground you get, the more damage you receive- touching the ground is an instant KO.
