Second Rap [Video/Action in Ecruteak]

[When Dirk turns on his Pokegear, he’s leaning against a wall somewhere, bundled up in his ridiculous Christmas sweater. Maybe it’s hard to tell thanks to his habit of wearing sunglasses all the time, but to those who know him, he might seem kind of tired.]

A word of advice for future Christmases. If you’re planning on getting your friend an egg, first figure out how many of their other friends are giving them eggs too. Otherwise, they might have five eggs hatch on the same day.

[At this point, Dirk turns the SFC around to show a collection of baby pokemon at his feet, including a Ralts, Charmander, Houndour, Feebas, and Ponyta. As soon as Dirk’s attention is directed to them, they all start clamoring for attention.]

Anyone else have the same problem?

[Dirk switches around the SFC so that all of the pokemon are visible, then points to them one at a time.]

Ralts, a psychic- he's a guy so I can get him to evolve into a Gallade, which is a combo psychic and fighting. Ponyta and Charmander are fire types, and Houndour is a fire and dark. The Feebas is a water type.

[Interesting.. he didn't know any of the specie names either, so those being included is helpful.] It had to be male to evolve?

[Making mental notes on those names though; Ralts and Ponyta both look like ones Yonah would like.]

It has to be male to evolve into that form, and even then, it requires special circumstances.

Do the females get stuck and can't go any further then?

Nah, they just evolve into a different form.

Interesting. That's a bit unique; from what I've been told, most only change into one shape and that's that.

There are always going to be exceptions to a trend. Ralts is one of them, and I bet I could find plenty of others. Eevee, for example.

Understandable enough. What does Eevee turn into?

The question is more what doesn't it turn into. Apparently it has evolutions for almost every type- fire, water, grass, you name it.

Then it's unique for that sort of thing; definitely an exception.

There's another one that can transform into other types of pokemon. The exceptions are many and varied.

Seems I've more to learn than I thought, regarding these creatures.

There's a whole ton of shit about them. Some of this I learned back home, but the Pokedex is helpful as hell.

Things you learned back home? About this place?

Yeah. There was a game about this world back where I lived- there used to be, anyway. Can't say I particularly know why.

I guess. What kind of game was it that makes all of this the "same" as it?

Just a video game. It was like this- you had Pokemon you trained, and so on. Some of the Pokemon were even the same. I can't remember too much about it other than that, video games aren't exactly my thing.

The hell is a video game? [The hell is a "video" actually. After a few moments of that question hanging in the air, he shakes his head.] Nevermind, it's probably just not something from my world and it won't make sense.

If you're sure. I bet I could manage a pretty good description, depending on the type of technology your world has.

My world is.. broken down, you could say. We don't have anything like these, for starters. [Gesturing at the screen.] All the buildings here look pretty different too. The only things that look similar are the tin huts lining the walls at the Aerie, and even then, these are far more stable looking.

So, not much. All right. A video game is a combination of a story and a test of skill. Usually, there are segments used to advance the plot interspersed with challenges to test the person playing the game. These can be puzzles to battles. It doesn't involve actual fighting on the player's part- they use a controller to manipulate their character and get them to do the right thing at the right time. It's something like having a puppet, only that puppet is interacting with a fake world that you yourself can't personally interfere with. There might be some on the Pokedex.

A test of skill with puzzles in the mix. Huh. It does sound like something interesting, to say the least. [Actually, it sounds like the temple in the desert, with all it's bloody "magic" rules and that room where he couldn't run or get teleported back to the 'start'.]

It's a test of a very particular skillset, that doesn't always apply to the real world. but it definitely helped here.
