Second Rap [Video/Action in Ecruteak]

[When Dirk turns on his Pokegear, he’s leaning against a wall somewhere, bundled up in his ridiculous Christmas sweater. Maybe it’s hard to tell thanks to his habit of wearing sunglasses all the time, but to those who know him, he might seem kind of tired.]

A word of advice for future Christmases. If you’re planning on getting your friend an egg, first figure out how many of their other friends are giving them eggs too. Otherwise, they might have five eggs hatch on the same day.

[At this point, Dirk turns the SFC around to show a collection of baby pokemon at his feet, including a Ralts, Charmander, Houndour, Feebas, and Ponyta. As soon as Dirk’s attention is directed to them, they all start clamoring for attention.]

Anyone else have the same problem?

[ Is the sight of a former troll with some pokemon food a welcome one? Because Aradia went to go mix some up, apparently, and she's coming over in time to catch that question. ]

Jake did, actually. He got a lot of eggs for his birthday, and add to those what he bought...Well, you can view the hatching on the video archives, actually.

Jake gave me two of these. I have no sympathy for him. And if he bought half of them, it's his own damn fault.

[She's a very welcome sight! To Dirk and to the pokemon, apparently, because they start watching her, instead of Dirk.]

I think it's nice to have baby pokemon around, but I might be a bit biased. [ She likes to study them. Which sounds creepier than it is in actuality; Aradia's at least more than willing to lend a hand with little pokemon, and she's had nothing but practice since coming to Johto.

She's setting down several food dishes now, having balanced them with waitress-learned skills. ]

And at least you're not travelling alone? Jane's got at least as many as you.

Only a bit.

[Sarcasm is his friend. As soon as the food dishes are down, the new pokemon all swarm it.]

She's added to her team enough to have some help with the babies.

That's true! I hope she comes back soon, though.

[ Not that Dirk and Jake and Sollux aren't lovely company and all. ]

Have you named them all?

It's not like Jane to leave her friends hanging for long.

[Dirk glances over at his pokemon.]

I've got some ideas. You want to hear them?

It's just a matter of where we'll meet up, I guess! Did you want to go to Violet to grab that badge? We could at least attempt to get everyone up to speed so we can be linear for the rest of Johto, I guess.

[ And she'll nod cheerfully. ] Shoot!

I think I have a bit more work before it comes to that. If it comes to it, I'll just split and keep in touch with the gear.

[He points to each pokemon in turn.]

The Ralts'll be Kamina, no question. Ponyta's getting some ridiculous racehorse name, once I find a good one. Thinking Réaumur and Delisle for the Houndour and Charmander- those are temperature measurement scales from Earth, seemed appropriate for the fire types.

[And, finally, he just. Stares at the Feebas.]

That one's Jake.

I might go with you when you do! Eventually I'd like to collect the badges here. [ She's seriously considering trying for one while they're here, actually.

Aradia will nod along with the names, and while there might be a pause at the end - mostly because of the staring at the Feebas and the awkward feeling that comes from knowing about the romantic issues from Jake and Jane so far - she's still smiling. ] Kamina sounds pretty! So do Réaumur and Delisle. And I don't know any hoofbeast names, I'm afraid.

[ ...And now she should probably address Jake. ] Because he named pokemon after all of you, or because something about him reminds you of Jake?

[ because she doesn't see a connection right now ]

I can endorse that. [It even gets a Strider fistbump of approval!]

I'll think of something, but they're all ridiculous, trust me.

Because it's ironic. Also because he got it for me, and he won't know how to react to having this world's equivalent of a monkfish named after him.

[Also because of what it evolves into.]

[ Her first Strider fistbump! Kodak moment. ]

A monkfish? [ She's not sure how it's ironic, so she's not touching that for the moment. ]

Has a reputation for being a truly ugly fish. [Mostly it's ironic because he says so.]

...You're right, that should be amusing.

At least we've got plenty of pokemon around the same level, so they can train off of one another.

That'll be no end of useful. I'd figure something out, but it's probably better to get them fighting plenty of different types early on.

We do have a lot of types between all of us! Which is nice. If there's an attack by a certain type of pokemon, we'll probably have it well in hand.

As long as we all stick around.

[After Jane left, he's been wondering how long this group will stick, before someone decides to split. He's been wondering if it will be him, because he and Jake sure did kiss at New Years, and they definitely haven't been talking about it.]

Sollux actually seems interested in going to Violet with us, so...

[ She's a little surprised, really; she fully expected her antisocial friend to ditch the group at the first chance. But she does eye Dirk after a moment, considering what she does know about the whole...Jake's quadrants thing. ] Or are you considering leaving us behind?

Not planning on it, but I might end up doing so at some point. Who knows.

[Dirk shrugs.]

[ She seriously considers asking about the whole Jake thing for a moment before deciding not to. Because...well. ]

Well, it's nice to have you while you're here! Jake missed you, and Sollux seems to like you.

[ "tolerate" is equivalent to "like", right? ]

[It's good she doesn't, because Dirk would avoid that conversation completely.]

Like I said, I'm not planning on leaving now.

[For Sollux, probably.]

I'm not either. Soooo, if you ever need an eggsitter or the like...

[He nods.]

If I ever need an eggsitter and I can't manage to draft Jake into helping, I'll call on you.

Well, I doubt you'll ever need to call on me, in that order! Jake's probably never going to turn down that sort of offer.
